Are you not getting enough love on Twitter? Does it seem as if nobody is taking an interest in your account? Some times, it can feel like you’re a lonely fish in a big Twitter-pool, so we’ve come up with some tips to help you score on the social platform.

Before anything else though – make sure your profile is set to public, otherwise your tweets won’t be seen out there. That one’s for free.

The timing has got to be right

When you tweet is almost as important as what you tweet. Have a think about when your audience is most likely to be online and when they will see your tweets. If you’re not sure when this would be, lunchtime hours seem to be the best, but check out our previous blog on when to post.

Get involved with trending topics when you can, but only when it’s appropriate for you.

Don’t talk about yourself too much

Just like a first date, talking about yourself is a massive turn-off. Try not to blow your own trumpet all the time. Yes, you want to promote your own brand, but your audience will want to reach for the ‘unfollow’ button if all you do is churn out sales talk on your feed.

Show the true you… but keep them wanting more

Authentic content and eye-catching imagery will always get you noticed. If you want to share content, tease users with your words and include a link for users to click through to – it’s easy now that links are not included in the 140 character limit any more.

Be more engaging

Naturally, the more you retweet and engage with others on Twitter, the more likely they are to return the favour. Compliment your followers, and you’ll get compliments back.
