That’s right, we finally hid Emma’s BlackBerry and lured her in with a Diet Coke to talk everything from Tesco to virtual reality. We present our resident Buddha of Essex and impassioned managing director, Emma Goode.

#1. So, what’s your favourite word?

Bosh.

#2. What gets you up in the morning?

My son’s future. That and Twitter notifications.

#3. What do you truly, honestly think of social media?

Coming from a print background, I didn’t think I could love anything as much. I do now.

#4. Kindles or books?

Books. The End.

#5.  What do you think is the biggest challenge to your industry right now?

As new channels and technologies emerge, it’s increasingly important to stay abreast of the changes and adapt strategies accordingly.

#6.  What did you want to be when you were growing up?

A bilingual secretary. Mange tout, Rodney.

#7. What led you to your current career?

After 25 years in print, I could see where the content marketing industry was going. I followed.

#8. Can you use your favourite word in a sentence?

Bosh!

#9. Ah, you got us. Now can you make it rhyme?

I’m going to go out for a good nosh. Bosh.

#10. Bosh indeed. What advice would you give to your younger self?

Give yourself a few more pats on the back.

#11. What’s the best thing anyone’s ever done for you?

So many things. I have so much gratitude for every single person I’ve met in my career to date. From those important early breaks to the friendships formed, I’ve been blessed.

#12. Tell us, what’s been your ‘career-defining’ moment?

Again, I think I’ve had a few. Launching three magazines for Tesco and beating industry stalwarts Radio Times to the Christmas shelves. Incredible team achievement. Nearly killed me, but I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.

#13. If you won a big award of some kind, whom would you thank?

My family.  Quite simply, they rock.

#14. Can you give us a timesaver of the day?

Don’t buy a BlackBerry.

#15. Where do you see your industry in 24 months?

More emphasis on strategic, mutually-beneficial brand influencer relationships. And an ever-increasing amount of video content and VR campaigns.

#16. Where were you 24 months ago?

Sleeping off the Tesco effect. 

#17. What’s an interesting fact about your company?

Our future CEO has put his name down six years in advance.

#18. If you could have a 24-minute Skype chat with anyone, living or dead, who would it be?

If my son was too busy planning his takeover, then it would be wonderful to share my life so far with my mum.

#19. What’s one word you’d want people to describe you with?

Tenacious.

#21. What’s your favourite Twitter Handle or social media campaign?

@C4Gogglebox. My son and I watch it, then we engage online— now that’s what I call a successful multi-channel campaign. And you can never have enough Essex families on TV, can you? It’s ok, you don’t need to answer that one.

#22. Phew. What’s one quote that defines your work ethic?

Actually, this quotation from Nichiren Daishonin defines my life:  ‘For example, the journey from Kamakura to Kyoto takes twelve days. If you travel for eleven but stop with only one day remaining, how can you admire the moon over the capital?’ It means to never give up, no matter what. My Buddhist practice absolutely helps me to retain that spirit throughout any challenge.

#23. What’s been the best part of your day?

It’s pretty much a normal day in the office — never have I planned, created, analysed and laughed so much in my career.
