From 30th August, some users will no longer be able to use the swipe up call to action on Stories, because it’s being replaced with a Link Sticker.

We know, we know, not every change is either welcome or required, but bear with us and we’ll talk you through what the changes could mean.

First of all, not everyone had the swipe-up facility, it was only available to verified businesses and creators or those who met the required follower count limit (eg the much-hallowed 10,000).

Second, we reckon the Link Sticker will give Stories creators more control. You can change the size and style and – most niftily – you can stick your Link Sticker anywhere you like in the Story.

The goodies keep on coming too, because unlike with the swipe up system, the Link Sticker allows users to react and reply to posts that carry it, boosting your engagement with a click.

The Link Stickers will join others for donations, music and polls that already exist on the Stories platform, but don’t worry if you don’t get access to them straight away.

Instagram is, understandably, concerned that if it hands them out to the world and his wife, there’ll be someone who spoils it for everyone by using Link Stickers to spread misinformation and whatnot. Back of the class for that ‘orrible lot.

If the platform does decide to go the whole hog and share them universally, it could be the first step toward creating even more access to link-sharing in Stories, and the business possibilities for that would be well… almost limitless.

For now, we’ll keep an eye on Instagram and its Link Stickers, and let you know whether they boost traffic and engagement.

Account Strategist at Google, Christian Facey is the go-to man when it comes to clicks, algorithms and web traffic. He’s a handy man to know.

#1. So, what’s your favourite word?

Unsubstantiated.

#2. What gets you up in the morning?

I guess the motivation to start my own business.

#3. Trying to out-Google Google eh? What do you truly, honestly think of social media?

It is the most powerful medium for reaching and influencing someone. Perhaps not five years ago but certainly now.

#4. Kindles or books?

Overall, I’d say Kindles. Having a thousand books in one device is fantastic.

#5. What do you think is the biggest challenge to your industry right now?

From a Google point of view – social media. We haven’t got a standing in that area. We’re not impacting how people are reached, how they consume social media.

#6. What about Google Plus? Oh wait… What did you want to be when you were growing up?

An architect. When I was very young, I liked building houses with Lego; that’s where that idea came from.

#7. Lego. The stuff little boys’ dreams are made of. What led you to your current career?

I guess I just fell into tech. I thought I’d be a stockbroker, but kept getting offers from tech companies. Some of the offers were too great to turn down.

#8. Lucky boy. Can you use your favourite word in a sentence?

The point you made is unsubstantiated.

#9. Now can you make it rhyme?

I guess unsubstantiated rhymes with emancipated.

#10. We guess it does. What advice would you give to your younger self?

Consider not going to university; evaluate the other options.

#11. What’s the best thing anyone’s ever done for you?

My parents didn’t buy me everything where they could have. That taught me the value of money.

#12. Tell us, what’s been your ‘career-defining’ moment?

To be revealed.

#13. Ooh, exciting. If you won a big award of some kind, who would you thank?

I would thank my family and my two mentors. My family made me who I was, and then when I started proving myself and developing opportunities, my mentors were there for me to consult with.

#14. Can you give us a timesaver of the day?

When it comes to stuff outside of work, I speak to the people I trust and ask for help. And where I can, I’ll always reciprocate.

#15. Where do you see your industry in 24 months?

I would say most of the activity, most of the innovation to come, is going to be completely mobile-focused.

#16. You heard it here first. Where were you 24 months ago?

I was at Property Flock, a proptech start-up.

#17. What’s an interesting fact about your company?

Google are developing a WiFi network so people living in developing countries can get connected. Project Loon is a network of balloons travelling on the edge of space, designed to extend Internet connectivity to people in rural and remote areas worldwide. You know, two thirds of the world’s population does not have access to the internet. This is really great work that they’re doing.

#18. If you could have a 24-minute Skype chat with anyone, living or dead, who would it be?

Marcus Garvey, a Jamaican political leader in the 1940s. He had a real entrepreneurial spirit.

#19. What’s one word you’d want people to describe you with?

Determined.

#20. Would you mind taking a selfie for us?

#21. What’s your favourite Twitter handle or social media campaign?

I like Chillhop (@chillhopdotcom) because it consistently combines technology and art to push the jazz influenced hip hop niche.

#22. What’s one quote that defines your work ethic?

No pain, no gain.

#23. What’s been the best part of your day?

Seeing my girlfriend who I’ll be able to live with soon.

#24. Awwwwwww. Finally, anything to plug?

Sure, here’s a great tool Google provides so business owners can check how quickly or slowly their website is running. No need to thank me.

The post 24 questions with Christian Facey, Google first appeared on 24 fingers.

The post 24 questions with Christian Facey, Google appeared first on 24 fingers.
