You probably already have questions: Will video still be a thing? Has influencer marketing finally had its day? Will we all be eaten alive by AI?

Nobody can predict the future for certain but we have used our insights and expertise to put together a list that can help your social media strategy.

So, from all of us to all of you: here are 10 social media trends 2025 has in store.

Keep it personal on social media

We know small business owners are amazing at juggling many hats while staying chill. In 2025, creating personal connections among your target audience will be key to your social media marketing success.

That could be something simple, like using social media polls to build communities, or crafting a kick-ass email blast that gets your customers talking on their social media channels.

Use our 24 fingers and endless supply of inspo to take your social media content strategy to the next level by booking your complimentary Growth Strategy session.

Comment on those social media comments

Social media users can be an unpredictable bunch but they all have one thing in common: opinions. Lots and lots of opinions that can do a lot more than massage your ego or do your head in.

Comments on your social media posts aren’t just a way to see if you’re doing something right or wrong. They’re also a way to engage directly with your customers for free. We expect to see more brands using customer comments like this to develop their products and services even further.

Start social listening

We love a good gossip at 24 fingers towers but we’re also big fans of social listening.

You might have heard it called social media listening, and involves analysing online conversations among your target audience about your brand.

Think of it as the chat the next day about what happened when your sister’s mate’s cousin went out out.

It’s set to be even more popular this year among social media marketers and business owners; tailoring their content marketing depending on consumer opinions (told ya).

Social media platforms = your new search engine

Move over Google, there’s a new search engine in town and it’s…

social media.

Yup, consumers have realised they can get all sorts of goodies, from reviews to real-time brand updates by nosing around their fave social media platforms.

Research says 24% of consumers use social media to answer queries, with Gen Z leading the way with 46%. If you’re not already doing it, start packing your posts with lots of info in 2025.

Video still roolz on social media, OK?

Many of us have faces for radio (not you, you’re gorgeous) but in 2025, even the most camera-shy biz owner will improve their social media presence by posting videos.

It doesn’t matter if it’s short-form content or a long-form video. A five-second Instagram reel or a 30-minute YouTube tutorial: social media video content equals good value for your business.

If you want to do more than use your smartphone, there are lots of software solutions out there that can help you embrace your inner Steven Spielberg, too.

Talk to us if you want a helping hand with your content creation strategy before pressing the record button.

Building authentic connections

Mentioning long and short-form video brings us neatly to another major social media trend for 2025: authenticity.

Generating high-quality content shouldn’t mean losing your brand’s voice. Instead, focus on making a genuine connection with customers by posting authentic content on your social platforms and watch those engaged communities respond.

All hail user-generated content on social media

Does anyone know anyone who hasn’t looked at the customer reviews before buying anything online? Is there anyone left who has never left an online review?

It’s a fair assumption that both groups are shrinking, which is good news for small businesses like yours. PS Have a butcher’s at our reviews while you’re at it. Pretty proud.

Testimonials and reviews come under the umbrella of user generated content, a crucial part of your social and digital marketing. Posting and sharing customer feedback across your social media platforms can do amazing things for your brand equity.

Combine it with a short form video and you’ve got a powerful tool for your social media marketing strategy.

Social media and AI, ai, ay…

There is no escaping this technology. AI has already made its presence felt, for good or ill, in many areas of business, from identifying social media trends and content creation to social media marketing management and analytics.

In 2025, more businesses, including solopreneurs and small businesses, are expected to use AI systems to improve efficiency and enhance their marketing, including on social media.

If you’re suspicious, sceptical or totally stumped by AI and how it can help your marketing strategy, book a complimentary AI Strategy Session with us. We’re 100% human and know our stuff.

Use social media influencers

Social media platforms come in for a lot of criticism (some of it justified), but one thing it does very well is help businesses create niche communities.

Social media marketers know that Facebook groups and Instagram communities are among the best social platforms to have meaningful conversations with customers, build brand recall and create deeper connections.

And you don’t have to do it alone.

Teaming up with influencers, who are either on your doorstep or further afield, to produce content can be rocketfuel for your social media marketing strategy.

Not sure where to start? Use analytics and social listening to identify media trends, track down micro influencers (people who have between 10k – 100k followers) and invite them to be part of your content marketing across social platforms.

Even the simplest short-form video could be an influencer marketing winner.

Get creative on social media

That brings us to the last in our 10 top social media trends for 2025: when it comes to content creation, don’t just think out of the box, chuck it in the bin.

This year, creativity is set to be one of the biggest social media trends, so it’s worth including it as part of your social media marketing strategy. Sounds obvious but as well as authenticity, personalisation and value for money, social media users are looking for something original, something shareable.

Getting creative on social media could mean using AI generated content for the first time, trying your hand at short-form video or joining forces with an influencer you admire.

Gonna be dining out on that one for a full 12 months, let us tell ya ;). As with all things digital though, we look forward, and et voila, here’s all the 2025 SEO trends that you’ll need to know this year.

From the brain-busting possibilities of AI to zero-click searches: we’ll dig into what they mean and explain how they could give your small business a boost in the coming 12 months.

So, top up that mug of something virtuous, pull up a comfy chair and maybe take a few notes, as we flag up nine SEO trends that 2025 will have to offer.

AI and marketing

Chuck a stone in any direction and it will hit an SEO expert muttering about artificial intelligence. No, they don’t mean Prince Andrew: they’re all going bananas about AI.

Loads of businesses have already embraced AI tools in one form or another to boost organic traffic to their sites, and they are set to be one of the key trends for 2025.

AI can be used as part of your digital marketing strategy in a variety of ways: from voice search optimisation tools to video marketing and really digging into the human insight from customers to help you tailor your offerings.

So basically, if you’re not using AI to support your business, we’d highly advise that you start considering it, pronto. You’ll never look back. PS need a helping hand? Time to book your free AI strategy session with yours truly.

Keep search engines happy: update your content

Trying to stay up to date with the algorithm Jones’ can feel like a full-time job. But one way you can feed the search engines’ beast without driving yourself crazy is to regularly update your content.

That doesn’t mean writing 4,000-word blogs every week or posting a million memes a day onto social media to boost your SEO efforts. Far from it.

Refreshing older content to ensure the SEO keywords are up to scratch takes a fraction of the time and, as far as search engines are concerned, will do just as good a job.

Links are as important as ever

If including links isn’t on your list of SEO trends for 2025, you might need a new list.

Relevant and diverse backlinks are just as important to Google rankings as ever. Make sure they’re all working, otherwise you’ll tumble down the list and all that digital marketing sweat will be for naught.

Don’t forget to EEAT

This stands for experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trustworthiness and, in a nutshell, it’s how Google’s human reviewers (yep, they really have them), determine the quality of content in search results.

EEAT relies on accurate, reliable and relevant content. The more you can demonstrate your expertise and experience in your business field, the more likely you are to be considered an authority by Google’s search results elves.

Trust us, as one of the top SEO trends for 2025, EEAT is a good thing.

Localisation of SEO

When it comes to building a business via organic traffic, it’s best to start with the customers on your doorstep and local SEO will remain one of this year’s major trends.

A good local SEO strategy should include having detailed descriptions on each business page, and photos and visuals that are optimised for the local area’s search.

Don’t forget up-to-date hours and real-time info synchronised with Google Business Profile or Bing Places, as well as those all-important customer reviews and ratings.

Baffled? Don’t be. Book in your complimentary Growth Strategy session and we’ll walk you through it all, step by step in a language you understand.

All SEO Is Mobile SEO

There is barely a human alive that doesn’t own a smartphone and potentially millions of them want to buy lots of stuff.

Optimising your content for mobiles will help put your business in front of those eyeballs in 2025. What does that mean in plain English? When it comes to meeting search intent, quite a lot.

Get the most out of your keyword research by getting your main ones in the title, meta description, first sentence and several subheadings, as well as your Alt-text.

Make sure your tags are all present and correct, and that your content is scannable, and it will stop even the most tuned-out smartphone user in their scrolling tracks.

Go long for great search results

The debate about whether AI-generated content is a good or bad thing will rage for a while yet but we will say this: for the longer form, human written content is better.

Search engines EEAT up (ha ha – see what we did there?) many things, but they really love authenticity aka that something special (you) talking about what you do best.

Longer-form, original, relevant content that is sprinkled with short and long-tail keywords is a brilliant way to demonstrate this and boost your search rankings.

It’s also a gift that keeps on giving: whether it’s a video or a blog post, it can be cut down and reused as posts for social media platforms. As trends for 2025 go, this one’s an SEO winner.

Boost your social media presence

Speaking of all things social media, user behaviour suggests it’s becoming a competitor to Google search results. What could that mean for you in 2025?

Social media platforms might do more for your business than just be a place to post quality content. They are excellent for creating communities and gathering user-generated content such as reviews.

They’re also a superb testing ground and can offer pathways to potential new audiences. The trick is to know the platforms inside out: who uses them, when are they more likely to post and what pushes their buttons?

Combine this with a cracking SEO strategy and 2025 will be looking smokin’ hot.

Zero-click searches

Every minute of every day, millions of user queries are typed into Google (other search engines are available). How many of them do you think directly answer the question being asked?

Not as many as you’d think, but zero click searches are set to be one of this year’s key trends in the SEO landscape.

Zero click searches aim to give the target audience all the information they’re looking for and a bit more. They serve up not just the answer to their question but also a knowledge panel and a ‘people also ask’ – PPA list too.

Now, if you’re the business being searched for then happy days – your brand may stand out from the SERP crowd.

But, and it’s a big one, zero click searches can also prevent users clicking on your website, and can make you question the effectiveness of your SEO keywords.

If you’re wondering what any of that means, we can help. Our expert team will sidestep the jargon and explain the solutions in a friendly, easy-to-understand way.

Now we can all get on with far more important things, such as knowing which High Valyrian command will get your dragon to fart fire and why the web’s looking at tea bags as a sunburn cure.

Yes, we are back and the votes are in. Cue the music and let us reveal what’s been topping the Google Search charts for the past month.

Ready? Let’s go.

Bye bye Rishi, hello Keir

Okay, let’s get the big beast out of the way. The UK has a shiny new government and Prime Minister so it’s no surprise that the search for General Election on Google hit a monster 50,000 in early July.

However, that pales into insignificance compared to searches on the big night itself for BBC News, which hit one million.

Biden bows out, Trump shot down, and Kamala’s star rises: the race for the White House gets keeerayzeeee.

Over in ‘Murica US Prez Joe Biden’s dopey debate performance led to LOTS of questions. ‘What party is Joe Biden?’ spiked over 250% and even the assassination attempt on Trump couldn’t stop the relentless stream of whispers about Biden’s age.

The Prez insisted he was fine but when you’ve lost George Clooney, you know you’re screwed.

The wobbles got worse when Covid caught up with Sleepy Joe, while the search for ‘Trump ear bandage’ rose 70%. But it was Biden who caught the world napping when he stepped out of the presidential race, and prompting searches for Vice President Kamala Harris to skyrocket 900%.

Want to support older people in your community? Check out Friends of the Elderly.

Boobs, bums and backstabbing galore

If chirpy Lib Dem leader Ed Davey ticking off his bucket list didn’t quite hit the bloodlust spot, series two of House of the Dragon has boobs, bums, backstabbing and bitchery to spare.

It’s also led to the top ‘how to learn’ language search as fans (we hope) brush up on their High Valyrian, with ‘can you learn high valyrian’ and ‘who speaks high valyrian’ up 150%. These people know it’s not real, right?

Speaking of fantasy and proof that some things really are worth the wait, sci-fi fans went berserk after news Mel Brooks’ daft 1987 flick Spaceballs was getting a sequel Searches for ‘Spaceballs sequel’ hit a stratospheric 1,050%.

A fond farewell to a true original

Sad news from the arts and ents world came with the death of much-loved Canadian actor Donald Sutherland.

Fellow veteran thesp Alan Alda, who played Sutherland’s M*A*S*H character Hawkeye Pierce in the TV version, got a breakout search boost.

South African stars rise

Netflix has been a brilliant place to watch stuff that isn’t home grown or from ‘Murica. One to watch is South African drama Savage Beauty (think of it as the bastard love child of Revenge and Succession). Searches for it were up more than 550%.

Ed’s bonkers election campaign

It’s not always easy to speak well of politicians but fair play to Ed Davey and his bonkers election campaign.

As well as having more fun than a busload of pensioners with an unlimited supply of gin and speed, he managed to put caregivers firmly in the spotlight, boosting searches for the occupation by 40% in the UK.

Find out more by following @carers_uk.

NHS pay rise

Meanwhile, it looks like underpaid health workers have also been hitting their keyboards, as ‘NHS pay rise’ was the top-searched and top-trending pay rise query, with a whacking 440%.

Brits fret about Joe and Gregg

Perhaps some UK searchers need to get out more… They were worried about the health of US Prez Joe Biden and MasterChef’s Gregg ‘the egg’ Wallace, with searches for both zooming past 250%.

Sad searches

Possibly saddest of all, the top question surrounding the UK’s beloved but damn-near broken health service was: “What does ‘NHS’ stand for?”

Sickly heartburn

Over in ‘Murica, searches for the question ‘can heartburn make you throw up?’ spiked over 2,500%. It had nothing to do with claims of divine intervention after Trump’s assassination attempt, but that wasn’t all…”

DIY sunblock

Folk also got busy searching the web for home-made sunblock and tanning oils. Maybe it’s still cheaper than handing over the internal organ of your choice to pay the health care bill for stubbing your toe.

Amid the top five searches for sunburn cures were the dodgy-sounding Noxzema cream and silver sulfadiazine cream.

Bringing up the rear was a baking soda bath (great if you want to flay yourself alive) and tea bags.

Burn and then a brew, anyone?

‘Oi America, give us our summer back’

While everyone in the UK is still waiting for the summer to get started, there was still hope that some sunshine would appear.

While searches for ‘weather forecast heatwave UK’ spiked by over 2,200%, across the pond, where millions suffered record-breaking heat, things were very different.

Searches for ‘how long will this heat wave last’ were up more than 4,850% and ‘heat wave weather forecast’ over 2,250%.

You can find NHS guidelines on dealing with extreme heat here.

New balls please

July means Wimbledon and the tennis competition hasn’t just had us daydreaming about Carlos Alcaraz’s phenomenal balls (we’re talking the speed of his serves, obviously) it’s been among the UK’s top food and drink searches.

All us lesser mortals who weren’t slurping champers and scoffing strawbs with the slebs at SW19 have been kickin’ up our heels too, so ner.

Searches for food and drinks festivals across the country topped the Google charts all month long.

Full of spritz

In ‘Murica, the desperation to cool down while marking the Fourth of July naturally spilled into searches for drinkypoos, leading to ‘spritz’ hitting a record high.

Among the trending recipes are the perky-sounding Campari spritz, Capri spritz, Crodino spritz (presumably not made with actual crocodiles), Aperol spritz and Limoncello spritz.

That’s a lot of spritz but god knows they need something to wash down all that grilled food slathered in hot sauce.

Au revoir to the office

UK workers? A surly, insular bunch? How very dare you!

Thing is, the data don’t lie… Searches for ‘remote job’ recently hit an all-time high in the UK, and three of the top five ‘where’ queries really showed people’s priorities:

Where you can work from home

Where you don’t have to talk to people

Where you can sit down

Make of those three queries what you will, but things take an even more interesting turn when we look at relocation job searches, which also hit a record high. Can you guess the top trending country?

It was… Saudi Arabia!

Wedding wings

Summer also means wedding season and the endless search for something suitable to wear. Recently, ‘jumpsuits for women’ spiked over 3,350%, closely followed by ‘shawls for weddings’, with more than 2,800%.

Based on this data, we can confidently say two things: a wingsuit is your best bet (as long as you don’t wear a white one) and a big fat “fuck you” to fascinators.

If you prefer clothing that’s sublime and sustainable, check out aaweareeco.

Cool summer

Of course, not everyone wants to get away from the UK altogether – some just need a bit of a break (“it’s not you darling, it’s me”).

Google search trends for summer vacay were topped by British Airways (complaints forms at the ready, people) but finding sun, sea and sand in all the cracks is clearly not UK holidaymakers’ first priority.

Hot on BA’s heels was skiing with a spike of more than 1,800%.

Andy bows out

He may be Scottish when he loses and British when he wins, but two-time champion Andy Murray was the undisputed King of Wimbledon 🫅 this year, with searches hitting over 100,000 as he made his final appearance at SW19 😭

Murray’s emotional farewell briefly eclipsed Euro 2024, but it didn’t last long.

‘Albania fastest goal’ became a global search trend after, well, they scored the fastest goal…

Meanwhile, ‘goal of the round Euro 2024’ soared over 3,500% worldwide and, back in the UK, the Euros were searched 320% more than Wimbledon.

If your kid has been obsessed with the footie, even after England’s soulcrushing loss in the final (bring on the Lionesses) and Gareth Southgate’s exit, drop the great team at SoccerDays a line.

WTF?

We know not everything in life can be neatly boxed up and pigeon-holed, so we’re adding this section for Google searches that have that special WTF factor.

Bacon ain’t fakin’ when he says: “being normal sucks”

Kevin Bacon is famous for many things: shaking his jean-clad bum in Footloose, creeping us all out in Hollow Man, and being named after one of the best sandwich fillings in the world.

But it wasn’t his CV that prompted searches for him to spike more than 20,000% in the US. It was his conclusion that being a ‘normal person’ (which he tried for one entire day) as opposed to a celeb, “sucked”. Thanks for that.

Bonkers blocks

Finally, fans of Stanley Kubrick’s film 2001: A Space Odyssey know there’s a weird monolith in it. But did you know there are three in ‘Murica (where else?) too?

A new one recently popped up in Nevada, following others in Utah, Romania, California and New Mexico.

These 12-foot tall metal slabs mysteriously come and go, and the latest one prompted a three-fold spike in US questions about what they’re made of, while “monolith meaning” was up more than 300%. The truth is out there.

That’s it – for now…

Before you throw open the cupboards and start experimenting with spritzers and sunblocks, or watch Footloose for the 80,000th time and swear it’s research (who cares what for?), make sure you sign up for next month’s round-up of Google Searches. They’ll be freshly poured with ice and a slice, and waiting in your inbox before you’ve twerked on TikTok.

British food gets roasted

If the thought of jelly with bits in gives you the ick, it might explain the top-searched question about British cuisine worldwide in the past year. Ready? It was…

Why is British food so bad?😲

There is NOTHING wrong with putting gravy on everything or naming a pudding after a diseased appendage*

British food businesses, show ‘em what you’ve got (unless it’s a diseased appendage then, no thank you).

*Spotted Dick

Orange ain’t the new cheese

Things are much calmer on the food front in ‘Murica, where searches for cottage cheese bread were up more than 140%, while cottage cheese flatbread was the top trending viral recipe. Could the nation that put orange cheese in a can finally be learning that real food exists? 🧀

@healthylittlepeach The viral cottage cheese flatbread blew my mind. It grossed me out when I first saw it, but now that I’ve tried it, it’s AMAZING! Thanks @healthymumway for creating this amazing recipe. I also sqw @Shredhappens version. 10/10! 1 cup cottage cheese 2 eggs 1/2 tsp garlic powder 1/2 tsp onion powder 1.5 tsp Italian seasoning -Add to a blender or food processor. Blend well. Line a small baking pan with parchment paper. Pour the cottage cheese mixture in and spread out evenly. -Bake on 350F for 40 minutes! -Use as bread and build a sandwich! I am using Tzatziki, chicken, tomatoes, arugula and red onion! #cottagecheese #cottagecheeseflatbread #healthyrecipes #lowcarbrecipes #viralrecipe ♬ original sound – Mac

E.coli-wobble

Back in England, we were warned by the Health Security Agency about a ‘nationally distributed food item’ linked to an E.coli outbreak.

In a mike-drop move worthy of EastEnders’ dum dums, the Agency DID NOT SAY what the aforementioned dodgy food item was. Scan your cupboards NOW… 😱😱😱

Reality royalty

God bless Joey Essex ❤️ and all who sail in him for putting Love Island back in the internet search spotlight and trouncing The Traitors (how quickly we forget). At 33, he’s the show’s oldest-ever participant. It also makes him about 1,000 in reality telly years 👴😆

Still, the self-proclaimed King of Essex 🤴 is “extremely single” and Love Island ain’t his “first rodeo”. Reem as ever Joey, reem as ever.

Merry Kelly

Getting a bounce from related searches was the lovely Kelly Brook, She may have gone from being crowned FHM’s Sexiest Woman in the World in 2005 to living her loved-up best life with husband Jeremy Parisi ❤️❤️❤️ but hasn’t stopped searches for her 2024 calendar spiking by over 160%. Well jell.

Barbie bounces back

Proof you can’t keep a good woman down – even if you drop a nuclear bomb on her with Cillian Murphy’s half-starved face slapped all over it – came with the UK’s top-searched films.

Alex Garland’s Civil War came first but Barbie, with her pastel-coloured 🖕🖕🖕 to the patriarchy was snapping at its heels in second place. Memo to film-makers: MORE OF THIS PLEASE.

Back of the net

In the same way that you don’t have to be crazy to work (insert your chosen location here), the documentary series 99 proved you don’t have to be a footie fan or love Ryan Reynolds to enjoy a show about it.

It topped the UK searches for documentaries in the past month, in a list that included Amy Winehouse (💔) and Bon Jovi, as well as Kevin Spacey and Gary Glitter 💩💩

Cannes-ed heat

Most of us don’t have a clue who’s taking part in the Cannes Film Festival 📽️ but people searching the web in Scotland and Wales have been OBSESSED with the place. Maybe it’s not so much the ‘ooh-la-la’ of it all as the “OMG I can finally see the sun!” ☀️

Film fans in Ireland preferred the bright lights of Utah and the Sundance Festival while in England, they stayed close to home with the BFI London Film Festival. Bring on those buckets of 🍿🍿🍿

Med spa shenanigans

When life gives you lemons, sod ‘em and start looking into med spas, according to our ‘Murican cousins. Heads up all you aestheticians – this one’s for you.

Among the top questions related to the industry were how much 💵 med spa owners made and “how to become a nurse injector”. Yes, that is learning how to stick someone with 💉💉💉

Well flip my lip

More popular internet queries from across the pond include “what is a lip flip”? It might sound made up but it’s a proper funky name for a filler treatment 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️. After you’ve had it, you can give your mush a workout by reciting another top search: ultherapy 🤣

E-skin me alive

It was only a matter of time that, after e-mail, e-commerce and everything else electric 🔌, the people in white coats got round to our bodies. Yup, peeps in China have developed e-skin and claim it can perceive touch 🤯🤯🤯

Call in the lawyers, it’s time for a sleep divorce

We get the usual blend of US batshit ‘n’ bullshit from the country where “nose job or part time job” were among the top search trends.

Couples looking to get a few extra 😴😴😴 are searching for a ‘sleep divorce’ – they snooze in separate beds so everything else in their relationship is 👍

If your business is in the relaxation game, this trend’s one to watch.

Come eye-gain?

That’s relatively normal compared to the eyebrow blindness 👀 phenom. Searches for this facial faux pas (in which your eyebrows do not match the shape of your face 😱) spiked almost 3,000%. Can we blame the Kardashians? 🤔

Mommy makeover and vampire breast lift

Something is going wildly wrong among ‘Murican mums, as the top trending cosmetic procedure questions were “what is a mommy makeover surgery?” and “what is a vampire breast lift?”.

We suspect the latter ain’t Dracula sticking his hand in your G cup and saying in a heavy Transylvanian accent: “Mwa-ha-ha-you don’t get many of those to the pound”…

It’s hot in here…

One of the most recent top US beauty trends was “boyfriend blush”, rising by more than 190%. This is not what you think.

Brace yourselves: it gives you the face of a flustered man – specifically your other half – right after they’ve finished exercising. Maybe they should have called it “sweaty beetroot” 🥵?

Coffee badgering and hush vacays

Leave it to US remote workers to get really creative when it comes to clocking on and buggering off. Two major trends are ‘coffee badgering’ and ‘hush vacations’.

The first is someone who comes into the office long enough to have a sniff of a brew ☕ and a natter before sidling off home. The second is a remote worker sets up shop in a holiday location 🏖️ but doesn’t tell their boss.

Fair play to them – if the Great British weather lived up to its name, we’d all be doing it.

If you’re a B&B owner, crank up that WiFi.

Farewell Rob Burrow

You didn’t have to be a rugby league fan to feel the wave of love that followed the death of 41-year-old Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow 💔

He was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) four and a half years previously, and his untimely passing saw search queries for the disease increase by more than 1,800%.

If this touches a chord, make sure you follow @mndassoc.

Thank you Michael

Another sad one: the hugely popular TV doctor topped UK search trends after he was found dead on the Greek island of Symi 💔 four days after going missing during a heatwave.

Let’s hear it for the men

In much better news, it’s good to see searches about men’s mental health month were up more than 800%, topping May’s ‘when is’ search in the UK. For the record, it’s in November (along with International Men’s Day @UKMensDay).

For advice and support, follow @MaleWellbeingUK.

Elections, elections, everywhere

Isn’t it always the same? You’re not bothered about an election and then suddenly they’re bloody EVERYWHERE. A bit like weeds.

The one we’re all interested in is between Biden (should he live that long 😬) and the unhinged orange buffoon but we have to wait until November for that insane rematch, unless the latter’s eating porridge somewhere…

Home-grown squabbles

In the meantime, Labour leader Keir Starmer is trying to prove he’s really not dull as piss 😑, while UK PM Rishi Sunak pissed off just about everyone by ducking out of D-Day commemorations early. There really are no words for that one.

Pound-shop politicians

Maybe ask these two. Diane Abbott was the top trending person searched over the UK general election thanks to the kerfuffle over whether she could stand or not. She can.

However, just like soured milk(shake) when it hits your stomach, Nigel Farage began moving upwards.

It’s so easy to lose track of time (apart from the day we return, triumphant and half a stone heavier, to the office), and there are never enough biscuits.

Millions of us turn to the web at this most wonderful time of the year, scrolling through sales bargains and deciding where we’d like to go on holiday in 2024.

It’s at this point we should all take a moment to remember Larry Page and Sergey Brin. No, they’re not members of a Seventies rock band, former football stars, or ex-EastEnders.

They are the founders of Google: the company behind the world’s most used search engine, which responds to more than 8.5 billion requests worldwide. Every. Single. Day.

The curtain may be coming down on 2023, but there’s still enough time to look at what we all googled during the past 12 months (Emma: shoes, Anne: holidays, Scheenagh: chocolate), and review 25 years of Google search.

Ready? Let’s go.

What did we search for in 2023?

Humans are a curious bunch and the internet puts a lot of information at our fingertips. In the UK alone, more than 94% of us turn to Google for answers to our most burning questions.

Let’s take a look at the top search trends across several different categories and find out what the general public was itching to find out. It could be rocket fuel for your business.

News: bad boys dominate

If you’re looking for diversity and inclusion in the 2023 search results, spoiler alert: you’re not going to find it. Male figures dominate almost every list, particularly sport and news.

When it came to the latter, the top four names (Huw Edwards, Phillip Schofield, Russell Brand and Andrew Tate) all hit the UK headlines for, shall we say, less-than-positive reasons.

In contrast, the bottom six included Tommy Fury, Harry Kane, Gary Lineker and David Beckham, some of the UK’s biggest sports stars. Marvel actor Jeremy Renner, who was hurt in a snowplough accident (only in America), came in at number 10.

The sole woman to make the top 10 was model and activist Mama Cax, who died in 2019. She popped up thanks to Google creating a Doodle for her in February 2023 as part of Black History Month.

Sport and athletes

Male sport stars and athletes took the lead in 2023 UK-based Google searches, with footballer Lauren James the only female figure, coming in at ninth place.

Tommy Fury and Harry Kane popped up again, alongside Carlos Alcaraz, Declan Rice and Jake Paul, reflecting the breadth of sports people searched for online, from boxing to football and tennis.

International stars Kylian Mbappe, Moisés Caicedo, Luis Diaz and Damar Hamlin (the US NFL player who had a heart attack in the middle of a game) rounded out the top 10.

On the small screen…

Happily, there’s a lot more diversity and inclusion on display in the top 10 search results covering TV shows.

The final series of Sally Wainwright’s drama Happy Valley came top, with Sarah Lancashire and James Norton beating off stiff competition from global smash hit The Last of Us. (Sorry Pedro Pascal).

Creepy drama The Rig, as well as Ginny and Georgia, Top Boy and The Long Shadow followed, while The Sixth Commandment, Daisy Jones and the Six, Idris Elba’s dishy detective Luther and the mind-bending Black Mirror completed the top 10.

…and the silver one

You could be forgiven for thinking a Google search list for 2023 would only have two films. Sure enough, Oppenheimer and Barbie top the ranking in first and second place, respectively.

Yet 2023 saw UK movie lovers search for plenty of kick-ass films. Also among the top 10 are Guardians of the Galaxy, Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Menu, and Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon.

Keanu Reeves’ John Wick 4, the bonkers Cocaine Bear, Bank of Dave and Creed 3 proved UK audiences weren’t completely dazzled by the Barbieheimer phenom, and actually craved a bit of variety (we’re looking at you, Marvel and DC).

In Memoriam

Awards show social media audiences may flip out if someone famous is missing from any list of recently departed stars, but Google’s UK search results were intriguing.

Presumably compiled before the death of Shane McGowan (see what we mean? There’s always someone left off), Friends star Matthew Perry, rock legend Tina Turner and the inimitable Sinead O’Connor took the top three places.

Much-loved star Paul O’Grady, as well as Ken Block and Bobby Charlton, follow, while disgraced celebrity Rolf Harris, S Club’s Paul Cattermole, Michael Gambon and Lisa Marie Presley complete the top 10.

Musicians

Veteran singer songwriter Cat Stevens (also known as Yusuf Islam) makes a surprise appearance at number six in Google’s run-down of music-themed searches from 2023.

The top five are Sam Smith, Arctic Monkeys, Lil Tay, King of TikTok Lewis Capaldi and Shania Twain.

Following Cat are fellow veteran Lionel Richie, S Club 7, Eurovision heroine Mae Muller and the woman who bends national economies to her will: Taylor Swift.

Sports events

We love our sport in the UK and 2023 was a bumper year for people obsessed with balls of all sizes and shapes.

Surprisingly for a year in which both the Men’s and Women’s World Cups of football took place, neither made it to the top search spot. That fell to the Rugby World Cup, though the women’s footie tournament came second.

In third place came The Ashes. We’re still figuring out the rules of cricket at 24 fingers, but we like the fact it’s the only sport that stops for tea and cake.

Football dominated the bottom half of the top 10, with the Men’s World Cup, FA Cup, Champions League, Euro Qualifiers and Carabao Cup.

Golf made it to ninth place with the epic 2023 Ryder Cup win for Europe against the US.

How to…

This is arguably the most interesting category, as it offers a real insight into what UK searchers were up to. If the first two questions are anything to go by, watching the telly was a major preoccupation.

How to watch the Champions League final and how to watch Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury? Came in at places one and two. People looking for ways to watch The Last of Us in the UK, and watch KSI vs Fury reached number six and 10, respectively.

How to turn off emergency alerts came in at number three, while four and five were How to get My AI on Snapchat and how to get rid of Snapchat AI? Go figure.

UK searchers also wanted to know how to prevent bed bugs (eiuw) and how to breed a Shugabush. We see all you My Singing Monsters players…

For business owners (or disgruntled lovers), the eighth-most searched for question in the UK could be of genuine interest. It was: How to block someone on TikTok?

…and when

The final category in the breakdown of what UK internet users searched for in 2023 is another mixed bag. Topping the list was the question: when is the Coronation?, followed by the equally important When does Love Island start?

Tommy Fury’s bouts against Jake Paul and KSI took up places three and five, with a query about the dates for Eid al-Adha in between.

UK searchers also asked Goole about the date for the Coronation concert, and when Queen Elizabeth II died. The final three queries in the top 10 were ‘when was Israel created?’, ‘when are the train strikes?’, and ‘when do England ladies play next?’.

So, that’s a run-down of 2023 in search. But has what we have searched for changed much since Google’s massive engine was created? Let’s take a look.

A mine of search information

In the 25 years since the verb ‘to google’ was born, unimaginable amounts of data have been generated. Information that goes beyond even the most inventive marketer’s wildest dreams.

Google has used some of it to put together a trends time capsule, revealing what the world has been curious about (and obsessed with, if we’re completely honest) across several categories.

They include the usual stuff, such as video games and TV shows, but also take in more niche searches for dog breeds and sauces.

From Solitaire to sauce

/a>

Looking at the top spot for card games, from 1999 to 2003, Pokemon was king of the castle, before poker had a 10-year run from 2004.

Yet from 2014 onwards, we’ve all become Billy No Mates, as Solitaire has held the top spot. What does that tell businesses and marketers about the behaviour of potential buyers in that particular field?

The sauces category is another good one. How many condiments can you think of right now? Four, five, maybe six at a push?

Would it surprise you to know that one sauce has held the top spot as the most-searched flavour on Google since 2004?

You would be correct to assume it is tomato but imagine the competition going on for the rest of the top 10. It’s the foodie equivalent of nine cats fighting in a bag…

Spellbinding screens

As you might expect, the number one place for the movies category reflects the big blockbusters of the year, from watching Daniel Radcliffe grow chest hairs in Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, to Twilight – be still Scheenagh’s beating heart.

But during the 2010s, Marvel-based superhero films dominated the top spot, before Frozen II hit cinemas in 2020. It just goes to show that a quality product will buck a solid trend and drive consumer engagement.

The TV shows category also reflects the robustness of consumer demand, with Game of Thrones topping the list for years, while The Simpsons remains the most-searched television series over the past 25 years. Cowabunga man.

Delivering for business

So, what does all this information essentially mean? Give your customers quality and consistency, and they will keep coming back for more.

There have been a lot of fancy schmancy things said about Google’s performance in its first 25 years. The simple fact is, it has kicked arse – with bells on.

We can’t wait to see what it’s got in store for the next 25, particularly how changes such as AI will affect (and help) UK business owners.

December is no different, but the Christmas holidays give us, and everyone else in the business community, a bit of a breather.

As we stand on the brink of a new year – a glass of Prosecco in one hand and a half-eaten mince pie in the other – what better time to look back at 2023 on TikTok?

UK users spent more time on the social media platform than any other country in the world this year. If you’re still unsure about TikTok, talk to us and we’ll get you started.

But which videos went viral? What trends did everyone embrace, both here in the UK and around the globe, and which content creators became social media sensations?

Pour a glass of something bubbly, pull up a chair and find out as we look back at 2023 on TikTok.

(Em)powering small businesses

All the social media platforms have their bits that drive us all mad, but we reckon there’s a lot TikTok gets right.

In 2023, its hashtags #SMB, #SmallBusiness and #TikTokShop helped put a rocket under hundreds of UK-based businesses, covering every sector you can think of.

Trust demi-diabetic Scheenagh to pick @sosweetshopuk as one of her faves from this year. She’s got good taste: it has more than 924,700 followers and has racked up 14.3 million likes.

Proving she’s got an eagle eye for ones to watch, Emma plumped for @lovendu. They make planners for mental health and self-empowerment, and have over 101,000 followers and 1.2 million likes.

You may be thinking “ah, but it will never happen to me”. Trust us – TikTok’s hashtags can pay off. If you want proof of how they can push a small business into the global spotlight, watch this:

Education, education, education

“The great aim of education is not knowledge but action” said philosopher Herbert Spencer. Not only did he rock some kick-ass sideburns, we think he would have loved TikTok.

In 2023, #BookTok made reading cool again (though Anne swears it never went out of style), while #ArtTok lifted the lid on all things… um… art.

What both hashtags did was bring them to the widest possible audience. In August, the winners of the first-ever TikTok Book Awards UK and Ireland, as voted for by the #BookTok community, were announced.

#BookTok is not to be sniffed at. The community has racked up 167 billion views, is driving record book sales, supporting independent book shops and launching careers of up-and-coming or previously underrepresented authors and genres.

#ArtTok is set to go the same way. Creators from across the country flocked to the platform in 2023, and gave Instagram a real run for its money. FWIW, we recommend posting on both.

But there’s more to learning on TikTok than books and art. Want to learn the basics of British Sign Language? Then @hipster_sunshine, with their 170,000 followers and 5.4 million likes is for you.

Alternatively, learn more about science with @big.manny1, who has 1.7 million followers, racking up 27.6 million likes (including us).

If your business involves specialist knowledge, or offers a service that helps people, share it on TikTok. You won’t regret it.

Fool-proof food

Millions of people love cat videos. Millions of people love music clips. At 24 fingers, we are fans of food. We (almost) don’t care what nosh it is – film it, put it on TikTok and we will drool all over it.

This year was a bumper one for UK food influencers on TikTok. Movers and shakers in 2023 include the lovely @nannabea, who has 1.7 million followers and whose epic Yorkshire puddings no doubt added to her 51.5 million likes.

Emma went in search of cooking hacks and ended up with culinary whiplash (she’s 100% fine), thanks to @ollie_eats, who has over 498,600 followers and 13.5 million likes.

Anne went all continental on us this year and spent a lot of time in the company of Italy’s @chefmaxmariola. After clapping eyes on his tasty tutorials, we can’t blame her…

If you’re in the business of creating delicious dishes, and you haven’t showcased them on TikTok, make 2024 the year that changes. If you’re not sure where to start, talk to us.

Viral videos we loved

If there is one thing social media, and TikTok in particular, does very well, it’s providing a constant stream of entertaining content that keeps us glued to our screens.

In 2023, there were so many creators who made us laugh, cry and think just a little more deeply, it was hard to pick just a few. But we managed it.

Who would have thought a video, shot in a muddy, foggy field would be so captivating? We and 111 million (and counting) others could not take our eyes off @seanthesheepman’s speedy sheepdog.

TikTok in 2023 has been brilliant for business, but it’s also been amazing for advocates.

Creators have worked hard all year to bring the causes they care about to our attention, and for many it has paid off in style.

One of Emma’s faves is Toby Addison, or @blindtobes, who has 284,500 followers and gained 15 million likes for his posts about living with blindness.

We’ve all been alternately inspired and left sobbing by posts from @tyreeceinheels. The Queen of SLAYification has one million followers and racked up 45.7 million likes – and we are here for it.

As a chunky lady, Scheenagh has been shouting all year about influencer @rosiebreenx. She has 585,300 followers and 12.1 million likes, and her posts about mid-sized fashion put a smile on all our faces.

The 24 fingers’ jury is in: if you have a message that needs a wide audience, TikTok is one of the most innovative platforms to help spread it.

Going live and aiming high

At 24 fingers, we work hard for our clients, but we also make sure that we play hard too. In 2023, there were lots of ways for everyone to let off some steam, and TikTok got in on the fun too.

Live events covered on the platform included Eurovision (Mae Muller was robbed), and Glastonbury, as well as charity extravaganzas Children in Need and Comic Relief.

#BookTok made its presence felt with The Hay Festival racking up 38,300 followers and one million likes.

We know all too well that 2023 was a World Cup year, so it’s no surprise the England Women’s football team, @england, ended up with 7.7 million followers and more than 125 million likes.

Whatever your business is up to in 2024, make sure to advertise, document and analyse it on TikTok. Not sure how to get the best out of the platform? Let us guide you.

TikTok’s music makers

Emma is always down with the kids, and she was front and centre when the Glastonbury crowd lifted up a struggling @lewiscapaldi.

The emotional video added to his 8.4 million followers and swelled his likes to 181.9 million.

Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones may have been around since god was a boy, but it seems you can teach old dogs new tricks.

The veteran band and their lead singer joined TikTok at the start of 2023, gathering more than one million followers and 8.5 million likes between them.

If Mick ever wants a quick 24 fingers TikTok tutorial, let us know and he can teach Anne how to boogie.

Meanwhile, Emma was hooked on everything from @annemarie, happily adding to her 7.9 million followers and 108 million likes.

Rising stars on TikTok

There’s an argument for popping Mr Jagger in this section, given he is a relative TikTok newbie, but Anne wisely pointed out that he’s older than some trees, so sorry Mick, you didn’t make the cut.

One who does is the model, influencer and all-round amazeballs person Fats Timbo, AKA @fatstimbo. This talented woman has racked up 2.9 million followers and more than 51 million likes for her insightful, authentic videos. We love her.

On a different plane altogether is @2girls1bottl3. Better known as Mixie and Munchie, this silent, hilarious duo have amassed a near-cult following by having a drink in all sorts of places. Their oddly addictive videos have attracted 813,400 followers and 15.9 million likes.

Two more women who made a splash on TikTok in 2023 are @brookieandjessie. They’ve racked up 3.7 million followers and 164.2 million likes with clips of them dancing to everything from Barry Manilow to Abrina (ask the kids).

These creators are proof that authentic content, no matter how niche, will find an audience on TikTok

The best of the rest

Which brings us neatly to our final category, which features one of Anne’s absolute faves: girl dinners.

The #girldinner hashtag has attracted a truly staggering 2.8 billion views, and is packed with fun, silly and sometimes downright outrageous videos of women telling us what they eat.

As an example of a trend that does what it says on the tin, they don’t come much better. Solid choice Anne.

Next up is a hashtag that had Scheenagh alternately baffled and amused for weeks: #romanempire. Make of that one what you will, but it’s had three billion views.

Emma chose one of the most influential hashtags of the year (no, not #wesanderson, or #redflag, #greenflag or #beigeflag). She went with #datebark, a weird combo of chocolate, peanut butter and dates that has amassed 28.4 million views.

So, there you have it – the trends and hashtags that made 2023 one to remember on TikTok. If you’re curious about what else is in store for social media in 2024 could have in store, check out our blog.

PS if you want using TikTok to be your New Year’s resolution, we’ll make sure you keep it. Guaranteed.

Don’t be fooled by that slightly soft reputation: the Pinterest Predicts annual trend forecast is better than Mystic Meg for being right on the money.

Now is the chance to find out whether your business can capitalise on one or more of its forecasts, as we cast an expert eye over the top trends Pinterest believes will be big in 2024.

Karate Kids

In the 1980s, every child and their pyjamas wanted to be Ralph Macchio (even though he was about 34). In 2024, the Gen Zers will be looking at a range of combat sports to provide down time, stress relief and a sense of empowerment.

Our top search term: ‘kickboxing aesthetic’, up an impressive 265%.

Bonkers for Badminton

Sticking with the sports theme is Pinterest’s prediction that Millennial and Gen Z consumers will go all-out for badminton. Whether anyone can say ‘shuttlecock’ without smirking remains to be seen.

Our top search term: ‘badminton bag’, at +105%.

Booming beauty care

Go booooomers. They will be lining up alongside Gen Zers to snap up all things body care in 2024. If your business offers beauty products aimed at anywhere from the neck down, these are your people.

Our top search term: ‘body skincare routine’ – up a jaw-dropping 1,025%.

True blue

Another Pinterest trend to watch out for in 2024: the return of blue beauty products, driven by demand from Gen Z and Millennials. From faces to fingertips: the bolder the better.

Our top search term: ‘fun blue nails’ – up a nifty 260%.

Shining silver

From blue hues we slip to cool chrome: silver metal shades will be everywhere next year, especially among Gen Z and Millennials. Expect some spacey, sci-fi chic, from nail art to interior design as metal goes mainstream.

Our top search term: ‘nail art metallic’, up a hefty 295%.

Grab Grandad’s cardie

The past will be another source of inspo to Gen Zers and Boomers in 2024 as they take what Pinterest dubs ‘grandpa core’ and run with it. Thankfully, there’s not a flat cap and heated big slipper in sight: rather chic cardigans, customised clothing and retro streetwear.

Our top search term: ‘customised denim jacket’ up a sprightly 355%.

Taking a bow

You won’t need to keep your eyes peeled for this 2024 fashion trend, because Pinterest reckons bows will be everywhere. From teeny-tiny ones on shoes to bigger ones for clothing and hair, creators are going to have their hands full with this one.

Our top search term: ‘bow outfit’ +190%.

Big, bouncy and bold

Anyone who remembers the 1980s may feel as if they’re having flashbacks in 2024, but panic not. It will just be Millennials and Gen Z indulging their passions for larger-than-life hair and jewellery.

Our top search term: ‘big bun’ swelling by 230%.

Kitchen party, anyone?

We’re huge fans of recycling and upcycling at 24 fingers. Next year Gen Xers and Boomers will be driving the trend for kitsch kitchens, packed with vintage appliances and thrifted accessories. Bold splashes of colour will be everywhere.

Our top search term: ‘eccentric kitchen’, +160%.

Cafe, home style

Baristas are going to be weeping into their aprons next year, thanks to Boomers and Gen X deciding to do coffee for themselves. The interior vibe will aim to recreate everything the coffee shop offers (except the crowds).

Our top search term: ‘coffee bar styling’ up a mouthwatering 1,125%.

Fantastic food fusions

What happens if you put a pizza and a pie together? Apart from raging indigestion and an expanding waistline, Pinterest reckons these sorts of mash-ups will be the go-to food fad for Gen X and Boomers. Pass the hot sauce…

Our top search term: ‘cheeseburger tacos’ up a gut-busting 255%.

One person’s trash…

Boomers and Gen X consumers will be driving another important trend for 2024, according to Pinterest: upcycling. It will cover everything you can think of, from clothing to furniture and even food. (We never leave a biscuit behind…)

Our top search term: ‘small scrap wood projects DIY’ up a mega 1,220%.

When Dracula Met Billy the Kid

Yep, Western goth will be a design thing in 2024, thanks to Gen Z and Boomers. Pinterest predicts lots of moody interiors, based on a dark colour palette and fringes. We’ll believe that one when we see it.

Our top search term: ‘Western bedding ideas’ +310%.

It’s jazz, but not as we know it

Millennials and Gen Z will be driving another fashion and interiors trend in 2024: vintage jazz. They’ll be freestyling fashion and interiors based on the sound. If jazz is your bag, you’ll be the coolest cat in town. Nice.

Our top search term: ‘jazz aesthetic clothing’ up a bebopping 180%.

Lolly from jelly

Definitely one of the odder predictions from Pinterest’s report: the jelly aesthetic is going to be big in 2024, particularly among Gen Z and Millennials. Think everything from couture and interiors to hair and beauty.

Our top search term: ‘jellyfish haircut’ up a whopping 615%.

Totally tropical

If cowboy goth, jazz and jelly don’t float your boat (or fall into your business niche), keep an eye on the Boomers and Gen Zers. They will be seeking food, interiors and fashion inspo from all things tropical: expect lots of hot colours and hibiscus.

Our top search term: ‘tropical chic decor’ up by a scorching 110%.

Money makeover

If you’re a ceramicist or potter, this one’s for you: demand for customised piggy banks and bank cards from Gen Z and Millennials is set to skyrocket next year. Think stickers with lots of personality.

Our top search term: ‘credit card stickers’ +140%.

Going off-road…

Everyone loves getting away from it all, and for Boomers and Gen X, 2024 will be the year they load up their cars and head off into the great outdoors. Campfire singalong and a sausage-onna-stick, anyone?

Our top search term: ‘overland gear’ up 110%.

…and taking it slow

While Boomers and Gen X are yomping in the wild, holidays for Gen Z and Millennials in 2024 will be very different. They want to take their feet off the gas and put them up somewhere they can snooze. Amen to that.

Our top search term: ‘ASMR sleep’ up an intriguing 165%.

Stylish fish and trendy turtles

If you are in the aquaculture business, 2024 is going to be your year, according to Pinterest. Gen Xers and Millennials are set to become aquarium adepts, with over-the-top designs a big trend. We can’t wait to see the boards for this one…

Our top search term: ‘fish tank themes ideas’ bubbling up by 410%.

Marking kids’ every moment

Brace yourselves for a heart-bursting 2024 as parents celebrate pretty much everything their offspring achieve, from their first tooth to moving up to ‘big school’. If you’re in the celebration cupcakes biz, or sentimental keepsakes, this trend’s for you.

Our top search term: ‘potty training rewards ideas’ + 100%.

Wild and wonderful weddings

It’s not just fashion and interiors that will be getting a vintage overhaul in 2024. Boomers and Millennials will mine the 1970s (gawd help us) for their wedding inspo. Time to get groovy, all you wedding-adjacent businesses.

Our top search term: ‘groovy wedding’ +170%.

Chitty chitty chat chat

There’s a lot to be said for laying the groundwork for a long and ho-ho-hopefully profitable festive season.

But we get it: you’ve been busy sorting out Halloween, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and Christmas has kinda crept up on you.

Fear not, there is still time to launch your festive marketing strategy. If you’re struggling to come up with Christmas marketing ideas that will enhance your brand, encourage customers and boost your bottom line, we’ve got your back.

Here are our top 10 last minute marketing ideas for Christmas.

1 Make your website look festive

The Christmas holidays are a great opportunity to freshen up your website and entice more visitors to come and buy gifts.

That said, nothing screams ‘Grinch’ more than a website with a measly bit of holly lobbed onto a landing page. As Noddy Holder says so well, “IT’S CHRIIIIIISSSSTTTMAAAAAASSSS”.

Cheers Nodders. But you don’t have to shed your brand identity completely to have a successful Christmas campaign.

You can either opt for a few, carefully positioned traditional graphics to show your target audience you’re getting into the holiday season spirit. Or you can go full-bore winter wonderland, with specifically designed Christmas landing pages and cover photo on your social media profiles.

Keep the customer experience and your brand values front of mind when putting together your holiday marketing and you won’t go far wrong.

2 Email your Christmas marketing campaign

We are big fans of email marketing here at 24 fingers. It’s one of the quickest and easiest ways to reach your trusted audience base and, if done well, can feel like a personalised invitation. Who can resist that?

Pack your festive newsletter with goodies, balancing your range of Christmas-themed products with discount codes for loyal customers and the deadlines by which they need to order their perfect presents.

Email marketing is a great tool for Christmas marketing campaigns. It helps drive sales because it’s a superb alternative for last-minute shoppers looking to find the best deals without trawling the High Street.

Instead, they can do their Christmas shopping from the comfort of their own homes, while slurping their body weight in hot cocoa. Perfect.

3 Say it with shoppable gift guides

No matter how late you are to the Christmas marketing campaign party, having a gift guide is an absolute must.

We love them, and think they are one of the best marketing ideas at any time of the year. They enter a league of their own at Christmas, when so many existing and new customers are looking for the perfect gift.

Even small businesses putting together last minute Christmas marketing campaigns will benefit from a gift guide, and they don’t have to look like your run-of-the-mill catalogue either.

As with your website, you can have lots of fun with the layout and design. Just make sure it is packed with high-quality images, lots of detailed descriptions and – most important of all – shoppable links for a truly smooth user experience.

Use an email blast, blog post or social media channels (more of them in a bit) to advertise it and get those holiday shopping clicks coming your way.

4 Use gift cards to boost your Christmas marketing campaign

Nothing says Christmas quite like the hordes of last minute buyers, frantically searching for something nice for their office’s Secret Santa or a pernickety parent-in-law. Ask Emma about the time she gave a stapler hidden in a jelly. Classic.

Gift cards are the answer to all their prayers and it is why they are the third-most popular last minute gift idea at Christmas.

As with your gift guides, you should pull out all the stops with the design of your festive gift card. Lots of businesses use their company colours to boost brand recognition during the holiday season, while others stick to a traditional Christmas theme.

Whatever you do for your Christmas campaign, try to make it Instagram worthy and who knows – your holiday marketing campaign could go viral. Boooom.

5 Offer free gift wrapping and shipping

This is arguably one of the best Christmas marketing ideas. If you have ever been handed a gift that looked like it had been chewed by next door’s dog or delivered by a certain courier company, you’ll know what we mean.

Gift wrapping takes the pressure off anyone who has spent 20 minutes trying to find the end of the sticky tape, only to drop it on the floor, watch it roll under the sofa and burst into tears. (That may be us. We couldn’t possibly comment.)

Aside from saving on all that stress, free gift wrapping adds value to your business proposition and enhances the consumer experience.

If you also offer free shipping among your Christmas marketing ideas, customers may feel inclined to spend a little more, potentially boosting your holiday revenue.

6 Partner up for more Christmas marketing ideas

Christmas is a time for getting together with loved ones and friends, but it’s also a great excuse to partner up with people or organisations as part of your holiday promotions.

We all know the Christmas season can be harder for some people. Joining forces with a local charity and showcasing their work on social media as part of your and their Christmas marketing campaigns can do wonders for them – and you’ll get a warm fuzzy feeling to boot.

Influencers can also be a gift that keeps on giving for many businesses. Finding someone on Instagram or TikTok who shares your field could lead to cracking Christmas marketing ideas you’d never previously considered.

7 Create holiday videos for social media

Even when people are up to their eyeballs in the Christmas spirit (for us that’s the combination of cheese and Prosecco. We’re from Essex), they can always muster up the energy to check their social media feed.

Use that desire as part of your holiday themed marketing strategy. Keep your target audience glued to their mobile devices by posting entertaining short snippets on social media pages. Tell them what you’re up to and find out how their holidays are going.

Not only will it keep their levels of holiday cheer topped up, but you can also let them know about upcoming flash sales or even hint at what might be on offer in your post-Christmas sales.

8 Personalise your Christmas holiday shopping offerings

Every aspect of your Christmas marketing campaign should try to engage with and attract customers on a personal level as they do their holiday shopping.

Including hand-written notes with purchases is a great way to do this. A simple message on a quality piece of card can have a huge impact on your buyer, who will could then go on to tell their followers on social media.

The positive emotions stirred up by that precious user generated content (UGC) could give your business a boost that lasts long after most Christmas campaigns have ended.

9 Bundle products for the holiday season

Is it just us, or does everyone get themselves a little (or not-so-little) something when looking at gift ideas while Christmas shopping for others?

If we love it when products are bundled together for the festive season, chances are your customers will too. That’s why so many businesses do it as part of their Christmas marketing campaigns.

Bundling products for gift guides shouldn’t be restricted to the holiday season, but at a time when so many customers are looking for gift ideas, it makes sense to prioritise the festive holidays: it’s a perfect way to boost sales.

10 Host a Christmas giveaway or flash sale

The turkey is barely cooling in the fridge before the starting pistol is fired on the Christmas sales. Yet businesses that are paying attention to their customers will be one step ahead, thanks to their Christmas marketing plan.

Holding a holiday themed giveaway or flash sale of items from your gift guide during the festive period is a great idea. As well as potentially giving you more sales, it will engage those consumers looking for an online shopping bargain.

For a successful flash sale, drop the news on social media the day before, then send out an email campaign or text warning customers of a not-to-be-missed promotion.

Make it mobile friendly and enticing, with visible links from all your social media platforms to the relevant landing page.

So there you have it: our top 10 Christmas marketing ideas for last minute campaigns.

Will Emma be on the goode girls’ list and get another pair of gorgeous heels for Christmas?

Will Anne plump for a festive jumper or a snazzy light-up headband while beavering away at 24 fingers towers, and will anyone remember where we hid the Christmas chocolates from Scheenagh?

Burning questions all but there is one that everyone wants the answer to: what will the social media landscape look like in the New Year?

Will TikTok continue to be the uncrowned king of short-form video, and will any platform be able to out-do Linkedin as the go-to resource for professionals?

Grab an egg nog, peel open a satsuma (aka your own body weight in Celebrations) and come with us as we take you on a whistle-stop tour of the social media trends for 2024.

Bite-sized content will dominate social media platforms

One of the biggest social media trends 2024 will bring will be a marked increase in short-form videos.

It will, of course, be driven by TikTok, whose average 1.1 billion monthly active users simply cannot get enough.

There’s more to the site’s video clips than entertaining and educating Gen Z (and cats): it will continue to be the birthplace of some of social media’s smartest video trends.

As if that wasn’t enough to have you scurrying to the editing apps, TikTok Shop (previously the For You Page) has been embraced by influencers worldwide.

Considering 91% of businesses use video as a marketing tool in 2023 and with revenues expected to beat YouTube in 2024, we will definitely be keeping an eye on the direction TikTok takes.

Other short-form video platforms are available

Meta-owned Instagram will be hoping to cash in on the demand for short-form content with its Reels feature, as well as Google’s YouTube.

It’s definitely a growth market, with Instagram videos getting twice as much engagement as static photos on the popular social media platform, and YouTube Shorts securing more than 30 billion views daily worldwide. Wow.

Longer-form video ain’t dead yet. Just sayin’

If the TikTok social media app is aimed squarely at Gen Z, YouTube is definitely more of an everyman and woman platform.

As well as championing short-form videos, the Google-owned platform also allows brands to develop their long-form video campaigns. It gives your social media marketing strategy the time it needs to provide excellent value for money.

YouTube also has the advantage of Google’s vast search engine when it comes to creating content. Instead of relying on individual algorithms, Google itself can help drive your traffic.

Sustainably-minded businesses can also repurpose and reuse their longer content, maximising resources. Edit it down into smaller videos for social media or IGTV, or embed them in your blog for the ultimate SEO hack.

Don’t forget subtitles, captions and descriptions to make all your video content as accessible as possible. Oh and remarketing is a biggie on YouTube too. Talk to us if you’ve heard of the term but not sure how to set it up.

AI and social media trends

There is a lot of chatter about artificial intelligence (AI), which has the potential to be (and probably will be) one of the most important social media trends of 2024.

While it certainly has its advantages, creating content faster, enhancing personalisation, and offering some potential cost savings to small businesses, many questions remain.

Some businesses are concerned about a lack of creativity and issues about authenticity, as well as the scope for errors and biases.

We foresee platforms such as Facebook and Instagram relying more on AI to recommend content to users to boost engagement.

We will be watching the development of AI tools, such as Chat GPT and Synthesia with increased interest and keep you posted.

The human touch in your social media strategy

AI may be on the rise but the social media platforms aren’t going to be losing sight of their flesh and blood audiences any time soon.

One huge social media trend for 2024 will be the boom in user generated content (UGC) and interactivity.

Audience participation has been a big feature in many brand’s campaigns in previous years (we’re looking with admiration at you, Dove).

There are whispers on the social media grapevine that some firms may ditch their stuffy approaches forever and try more conversational tones. You heard it here first.

X v Threads = a win for Elon

No rundown of the latest social media trends and what the future has in store would be complete without a nod to X.

It’s fair to say nobody really knows what Elon Musk’s social media strategy is, beyond doing and saying pretty much what he, as the richest person in the world, wants.

Whether X remains as one of the top social media platforms remains to be seen. One thing’s for sure: Threads, accessible via Meta-owned rival Instagram, showed early promise but can it stay the distance? Err…

Sure, it’s racked up over 150 million users and 23.6 million daily active users, but ask yourself when was the last time your prospect customer mentioned the great time they were having over on Threads? Exactly.

As the community grows and matures, in time it might be a rival for X, but for the moment, the 24 fingers’ jury is most definitely out.

Everyone’s linking Linkedin

For professionals, there is still just one place to go: Linkedin. You can expect a few changes in 2024, with an increase in audio content and live events.

Watch out for more posts from CEOs and other executives too, as the platform aims to provide thought-leadership with a human side. It should be an interesting 12 months. Oh, and do get yourself listed as one of LinkedIn’s Top Voices too. Does wonders for your personal brand.

Nano and micro influencers are here to stay

It might feel as if we’re in one of those technology periods where everything shrinks, but knowing influencers with a smaller following will actually benefit brands.

Every brand wants to work with someone who can increase engagement and reach their target audience effectively, right.

However, even the most ambitious start-up or small business can’t always afford the really big names. That’s where nano and micro influencers come in.

They have fewer followers, and therefore appeal to a wider range of marketing budgets, but have just as much clout among their fans across the social media networks.

With an average engagement rate of 3.69%, expect to see more nano and micro-influencers, and other community-led activity on social media platforms in 2024.

SEO and the social media search engine

Any marketer worth their salt knows about the importance of seeding content with relevant keywords for search engine optimisation, or SEO.

But move over Google – there’s a new SEO starlet in town and its name is social media.

Research shows 40% of 18 – 24 year-olds are using their social media platforms to search for all kinds of stuff, while social media posts peppered with good SEO saw a 30% increase in engagement.

Forget hashtags in your marketing strategies – it’s SEO all the way, baby.

So, there you have it, just a few of the social media trends we think will be hitting the headlines and making waves in 2024.

If you’re not sure which social media platform is right for you, or you can’t tell your AI from your algorithm, talk to us at 24 fingers. We’re straight-talking and street smart. And we don’t use jargon.

Feeling anxious from time to time can be perfectly normal, especially ahead of important life events. However, when we feel like that all the time, it can put a strain on our mental health.

A survey by The Mental Health Foundation found 34% of UK adults felt anxious, while almost three in 10 people (29%) experienced stress in the past month.

The good news is: with a little help and support, our anxiety can be managed. This year’s campaign aims to increase awareness and understanding by providing information and advice on the things that can help prevent anxiety from becoming a problem.
