We’ve said a million times that social media gets our blood pumping unlike anything else, but we’re also massive believers in the idea of ‘tribe’ here at 24 fingers. Building strong, lasting relationships with business partners and creating a support network to help and guide people are among the best things about being part of a community.

We also live in the real world so that means not everyone gets a fair crack of the whip. Luckily, a supported internship programme from South Essex College is setting out to change that.

It’s aimed at students who have additional needs, such as learning difficulties, and are ready for the world of work, helping them take the next step into sustainable employment through internships that last between six months and one year.

We’re thrilled to say 24 fingers is taking part and will welcome bubbly Krista Hoare in the coming weeks. She has cerebral palsy, but isn’t letting it get in the way of her ambitions, and we reckon she’s going to fit right in – she’s enthusiastic and bubbly, loves shopping and is a big fan of musicals. Boooom.

Krista won’t be thrown in at the deep end either. She will be supported by an experienced job coach in the first six weeks of the internship programme, and they will work with us to create a specific support plan, aimed at meeting Krista’s particular goals.

“We’re delighted to be welcoming Krista to the 24 fingers family, and are really pleased to be able to support the South Essex College supported internship programme,” said Emma Goode. “We would urge other local businesses to get involved too – it’s a fantastic way to make the world of work more inclusive and give opportunities to people whose ideas and voices deserve to be heard.”

“I am thrilled and excited about joining 24 fingers, as it will help develop my social media skills as well as meeting new people along the way. Emma has welcomed me and made me feel right at home,” Krista said.

“We are overjoyed to have 24 fingers coming on board with us as a new employer,” added job coach Lisa Bennett. “Emma has been so supportive of the programme and Krista is really excited about her new role. This will truly be a rewarding and meaningful experience for Krista and for us here at South Essex College”.
